Learning Designer & Facilitator

15+ years creating training that shifts how people think and act—across government, healthcare, and education.

Hi, I'm Jolyon

I design eLearning and training programs that change behaviour—not by lecturing, but by surfacing assumptions, showing people a different way of thinking and giving them opportunities to practice.

I work with subject matter experts to translate specialist knowledge into learning that's accurate and genuinely accessible. The goal is always practical: give people skills and perspectives they can actually use.

My background includes facilitation across a wide range of audiences—disengaged young people who hadn't found success in mainstream education, frontline health and housing workers, government managers, and specialist practitioners. I've presented at conferences for medical writers, health professionals and educators.

This range has taught me to read a room and adjust, but these days I'm more focused on the design and development side: working with experts, building eLearning, and figuring out what learners actually need.

What I do

eLearning Design & Development

I design experiences that surface gaps in knowledge—even for experienced workers. Quizzes that reveal assumptions. Scenarios that make people reconsider. I use co-design principles: understanding from end users what they actually need, then building from there. Tools: Articulate Storyline and Rise, LMS implementation, SCORM.

Plain Language

Writing, editing, and training others. The question I'm always asking: can the person reading this understand it and use it to make good decisions for themselves

Subject Matter Expert Collaboration

Translating specialist knowledge into learning where the behaviour changes, even if the learner never memorises the definition. I help experts see their knowledge from a learner's perspective without making them feel it's being dumbed down.

Needs Analysis & Facilitation

When a project needs it, I run workshops to understand what learners actually need. I've facilitated for groups ranging from young people experiencing homelessness to senior parliamentary managers—adjusting in real time based on who's in the room.

Who I’ve Worked With

Over 15 years, I've helped dozens of organisations and workers communicate more clearly:

Healthcare: Royal Perth Children's Hospital • WA Health • cohealth • Jean Hailes

Government: Victorian DFFH • Parliament of Victoria • Multiple departments

Local Councils: Cities of Yarra • Melton • Frankston

Universities: University of Melbourne • RMIT • Victoria University

Peak Bodies: Heart Foundation • Victorian Legal Aid • Royal Australian College of GPs

Portfolio Examples:

Cultural Competence eLearning Suite - Centre for Culture, Ethnicity & Health

I designed and developed this cultural competence eLearning suite for the Centre for Culture, Ethnicity & Health. It's endorsed by the Australian Primary Health Care Nurses Association (APNA) and available commercially at cehonline.org.au. The three-unit program has been completed by thousands of healthcare workers across Victoria and other states.

Plain Language Training - Centre for Culture, Ethnicity & Health / Victorian DFFH

Designed plain language training for healthcare and social service workers, customised for deployment across the Victorian Department of Families, Fairness & Housing.
